Know what a 3-way switch replaces

A 3-way device is used as one half of a two-location switching arrangement; it is not wired like an ordinary single-pole on/off switch. The 120/277V marking is a device rating, not permission to use it on a circuit whose box, conductors, load, or companion device is unsuitable.

Check markings before installation

Confirm package quantity, color, switch configuration, voltage, current, terminal layout, grounding method, and any required listing marks against the received product and project specification. Product photos and SKU should agree with the order. A qualified person should install and test line-voltage wiring.
